Phillipe Chow opened in Hamptons today just in time for summer. Ooooh, I wish I was there, however, I was in Brooklyn chillin at the Act Now Foundation's short film program on Love, Life, Race & Diversity.
I watched a cute little film called "Afterschoole'd" by Joe Hernandez-Kolski; about a preppy guy, claiming to be a "hip-hop" connoisseur only to get busted and "schooled" by someone who knows that he's not "keeping it real."
On the hip-hop tip, there are a lot of events happening in New York next week. Starting with Def Jam's 25th Anniversary. Hard to believe it was 25 years ago when Def Jam was born and I learned to do the wop to the Beastie Boys, "Paul Revere"
"Here's a little story I got to tell..." Those were the days. The event is set to happen at an undisclosed location and the list is...HEAVY.
Artists past & present will converge to celebrate Def Jam's 25th Birthday!
Those expected to attend are Russell Simmons, Kevin Lyles, Rev. Run and past and present Def Jam artists (confirmed): LL Cool J, Ne-Yo, Musiq Soulchild, Chrisette Michelle, Redman, Method Man, Jadakiss, Juelz Santana, Rick Ross and Jeremiah. Other invited guests include: The Beastie Boys, Common, Rihanna, Spike Lee, Charlotte Ronson, Jeremy Sisto, Michael Imperioli, Idris Elba, Slick Rick, Doug E. Fresh, Mos Def, BET personalities Rocsi, Terrence, Alicia Renee and Egypt, Wendy Williams, Gossip Girl's Nicole Fiscella and actress Napiera Groves.
I will tell you all about it after the party!
I'm also excited about YRB Magazine's "How do YOU rock it?" Party. This is the first I've heard of this event, however, readers and party goers are asked to come "rock out" their signature style.
This is YRB's Third Annual event equipped with a Live Photo shoot and performance by Busta Rhymes. Video Game Councils REAL Tattoo Booths LIVE Art Mural - Created by Meezan will also be in the house.
The live photo shoot will be seen in the Fall Fashion Issue of YRB.
Next week, I'm looking forward to MoMA's 41st annual Party in the Garden which honors the artists featured over the past year in solo exhibitions or installations at The Museum of Modern Art and P.S.1.
The After-Dinner Dance features a set from the acclaimed DJ Cassidy, followed by a live music performance from the Grammy-winning artist Estelle.
The Party in the Garden benefits The Annual Fund of The Museum of Modern Art and the maintenance of The Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden. The party also benefits the Museum's general operating fund, helping to make possible the Museum's educational programs and the care, study, and exhibition of its collection
TO PURCHASE TICKETS:
Tickets for the After-Dinner Reception featuring Estelle are $100 (from 9:00 p.m. to midnight) or $150 at the door: Please visit http://www.moma.org/partyinthegarden2009
Until Next Time,
See You in the City!
