When I first heard the song "Roxanne, Roxanne" by UTFO, I couldn't help but get caught onto to the contagious rhymes.  Now Kangol Kid, one of the pioneers of rap is celebrating a Birthday bash and Celebrities and Hip Hop Legends Come Together to Celebrate and Honor One of Their Own--and guess what?  It's this Friday!

The bash will broadcast live on NY radio station 98.7 Kiss FM with host Fred Buggs and music by the legendary Kool DJ Red Alert.

This fabulous event will not only celebrate Kangol’s birthday, but will honor his 25 years of accomplishments in Hip-Hop including: The First Rapper to perform at the Apollo Theater, First rap/breakdance group member, First dancer for a rap group (Whodini), First Haitian-American Rap Artist, First product-endorsed rapper (Kangol Headwear), First breakdancer on a national talk show (Phil Donahue), First rapper to sing a ballad on Soul Train, First rapper to rap in Pig Latin (“Beats & Rhymes”) and First rapper to integrate Rap with Reggae (“Pick Up The Pace”).

Scheduled to appear/perform at this monumental classic Hip-Hop event are: Illusionist David Blaine, R&B singer Olivia, Big Daddy Kane, Sugar Hill Gang, Chubb Rock, Dana Dane, Chip Fu, Roxanne Shante, Chuck D of Public Enemy, Naughty By Nature, Freedom Williams, Queen Pen, JoeSki Love, legendary adult star Heather Hunter, MTV personality Sway, actor Anthony Anderson, comedian Gerald Kelly … and in honor of Kangol Kid… the reunion of Treacherous 3, Fearless 4, Furious 5, Crash Crew, Whistle and many more.  The VIP room music will be provided by Kid-N-Play’s DJ Wiz and his Video Mix Party on plasma screens while live on stage will be Beyonce’s Tour disc-jockey, DJ Diamond.

Proceeds from this event will benefit the Institute of the Black World (IBW) 21st Century (www.ibw21.org) Haiti Support Project (HSP), which will visit Kangol’s native country of Haiti later this year.  Kangol Kid will be joining them with his reality TV show’s cast and crew to bring awareness to Haiti’s less than fortunate conditions. Dr. Ron Daniels, Ph. D., IBW President and Founder of HSP is “Building a Constituency for Haiti in the U.S.” with an emphasis on African Americans and Haitian Americans. “We believe that a partnership between Haitian Americans and African Americans can be a formidable force for change in the first Black Republic in this hemisphere in terms of positively impacting U.S. policy, promoting cultural/historical tourism and mobilizing humanitarian relief and economic/business investment in Haiti.  Having Kangol, the first Haitian-American Hip-Hop Artist accompany us on this journey would be inspirational to the citizens of Haiti”, said Dr. Daniels.
