Movies Under the Stars: The Age of Innocence

Pack a picnic, bring a friend and settle in for a night of premier Hollywood movies. This year’s theme: Nieuw York/New York – films that span the centuries, in honor of the Hudson River Quadricentennial. Sponsored by Riverside South Properties. This week’s movie: The Age of Innocence (1870s), starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Michelle Pfeiffer, Winona Ryder; Directed by Martin Scorcese (1993). Martin Scorcese’s drama, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Edith Wharton, depicts a man caught between two women and two worlds in the New York of the 1870’s, a time of lavish excess and social hypocrisy. Riverside Park South is located on the Hudson River between 59th and 72nd Streets. This event is FREE. Weather Permitting. This Latin jazz ensemble recreates the musical battles that occurred between the giants of 1950s mambo. The Big 3 Palladium Orchestra, led by Machito's son, Mario Grillo, and Tito Rodriguez Jr., with several original band members, play the classics on this stellar night. Dance lesson at 6:30pm; live music at 7:30pm Tickets are available for $15 if you prefer to dance on the stage, but there is plenty of the room on the plaza to dance for free.
