Punishing the group for what individuals do
Two Muslin groups in New York want to build a mosque near ground zero, the location where the World Trade Center fell, and three thousand plus Americans were killed on 9-11. Some of the families of the survivors, and according to the Associated Press, some tea party activists want to block the construction. They want no mosque near ground zero. The construction plans have received the city approval, but maybe blocked, if a decades old proposal to give landmark status to the building the mosque is planned to replace. is granted.
9-11 was an awful event. Ground zero is one of those places that will long be in the American memory. Bin Laden and his gang attacked America. America was attacked, not Americans who are non Muslin. Shall I repeat a statement that has often been said? Muslins died at 9-11 too? To blame all the people of one faith for a crime committed by gangsters, who also claim the same faith, is wrong and is is unAmerican.

Just sayin'
You know, the same could be said about the Nazis. Not all Nazis were bad, yet, when we talk about them we automatically think of them as evil people. And for that matter, the same applies to the KKK, sure they have some crazy beliefs that most of us would find objectionable, but not all them are out there lynching people. That is danger with belonging to groups, it only takes one bad apple for people to dismiss the whole apple bin as rotten. Hell, you can say the same thing about the Catholic preists, they are not all child molesters, I know this because I was never molested as a child. So even though it is unfortunate that all in the group must suffer because of a few bad apples, I also believe that it is the responsibility of the group to expel those individuals that are harming the reputation of the group as a whole.
Now, in this situation I think it would show a great deal of respect and sensitivityto the citizens of New York City if the people who want to build the mosque would back down and chose a different location. I think, it's a matter of principle, not racism.
Say what?
Boy, did you misread the article. The group I am speaking of are Muslins which total over a billion people. The bunch of individuals are members of Al Qaeda. Al Qaeda is a bad bunch of individuals. When I made reference to the klan in a previous post the larger group I was referring to are Christians. It may be hard for you to understand but the KKK call themselves the Christian Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. The klan is a group of wicked individuals who are up to no good. All Nazis are rascals. All German during WW2 weren't rascals, nor were all of then Nazis. There was a sizable number, not near the majority, who opposed the Nazis and suffered for doing so, Back to the point of the article, there are millions of Americans who are Muslims. Some have roots in this country that go back to the days of the founders. Very few American Muslims, very few Muslims worldwide, have any sympathy for Al Qaeda. When you say let them build their mosque elsewhere? The them include American born citizens.
What you mean to say is that
What you mean to say is that during WWII, not all Germans were Nazis. The Nazis were a political party with very specific ideals, including Aryan superiority and fascist force projection. If one joined the Nazi party, one either expressly or implicitly supported these ideals. It doesn't matter if one individual within the group isn't as bad as the majority. Support is support.
However, it truly is ignorant to assume that violent Muslim extremists represent the majority of their group. There's certainly a larger intent in the plan to build the new mosque in that location, but that's not enough to impede the peaceful practice of religion on American soil.
