So much to do...and the summer hasn't begun!
Alvin AileyJune is only beginning and already there's so much to do! This week I will attend the Hatch Match, a speed dating style format, except for entrepreneurs and investors. You get 2 meetings and 5 minutes each to pitch your dream. I'm all in! Last year over 40 angel investors showed up amongst 400 guests. Tickets are going fast, so sign up now: http://hatchmatch2009-creme.eventbrite.com
After that...well the next day, there's a cool concert happening at Chelsea Piers for the celebration of "THE ULTIMATE PROM" A Star-Studded Live Prom Concert Celebrating the Senior Class of New York City's "The High School of Fashion Industries," hosted by Gossip Girl's Connor Paolo and 30 Rock's Katrina Bowden.
Universal Motown Records American Music Award-winning recording artist Akon will introduce performances by Kat De Luna, Kid Cudi, Tina Parol, Ryan Leslie, Jimmy Robbins and additional surprise musical guests throughout the evening. How's that for a senior kick-off!
The same night, I will celebrate my birthday and 8 years in New York at one of the most fabulous rooftop's in the city. It's going to be a blast! However, while sitting at my desk sifting through emails, one caught my attention-Alvin Ailey in Brooklyn, then I realized I've never seen Alvin Ailey. Can you imagine my excitement when I found out that Alvin Ailey was coming to BAM in Brooklyn-on my birthday!!!?
I'm excited to see the show, however, there are two choices to choose from because the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is celebrating their 50th Anniversary Season from June 9 - 14, which means they are having 2 separate showcases: 1, the Best of Alvin Ailey which includes their new production Hymm, Suite Otis (Tony Award winning choreographer George Faison's ballet masterpiece to music of Otis Reading) and 2. Classic Ailey, which consists of their highlights throughout their career.
The show will take place at the Howard Gilman Opera House (30 Lafayette Avenue), 40 years after the Company's debut at BAM. Led by acclaimed Artistic Director Judith Jamison.
Tickets for the two new programs range from $20-$85 and can be purchased online at alvinailey.org or BAM.org and by calling (718) 636-4100. You even get a complimentary Dance Class with the ticket stub, valid 1 year from the performance date!
Next up, on the 9th, Istanbulive will converge at the Ayza Wine and Chocolate Bar in the city to celebrate the sounds of Turkey during a meet & greet and cocktail reception. Complimentary wine, chocolate and canapés will be served.
After the cocktails I plan to roll over to Robert DeNiro's new restaurant Locanda Verde...of course because it's owned by Mr. DeNiro but also because I love Italian food! I will tell you how exquisite the menu is after I try all there is including Dolce! My imagination is running wild at the sound of La Fantasia di Tropicale for 2 (ginger gelato, lime granita, white chocolate crema, passion fruit caramel, champagne mango, golden pineapple, coconut cake) mmmm...can someone say what's on the menu for next week?
Until Next Time,
See you in the City!
Dominga~
